There are many aspects to ensuring patient safety—and individuals and healthcare organizations alike play a role in safeguarding patients. Patient Safety Week is March 8-14, creating an opportunity to  to reflect on how eHealth Technologies protects and secures one of the most personal patient assets: private healthcare information.

For better or worse, we live in the era of big data. While healthcare organizations use this information to improve, advance, and personalize patient care, this same information must be protected from misuse. While undergoing diagnosis and treatment, the last thing patients should have to worry about is the safety and security of their data. Yet, according to the Protenus Breach Barometer, more than 40 million patient records were breached in 2019 alone. Breaches not only compromise a patient’s privacy and financial security, but are costly for your business, your intellectual property and your brand reputation.

eHealth partners and their patients have peace of mind that patient data is protected against vulnerabilities. Our security protocols meet the highest standards and have a team working day in and day out to mitigate risk and ensure the security of our systems.

Below are four guiding principles that we employ to safeguard all patient data that we are entrusted with:

  • Be ready for new threats that are on the rise. Our ever-evolving security strategies adopt a risk-based approach to create a protected infrastructure today and for the future.
  • Consistency is key. In addition to the highest level of technology practices, eHealth employees undergo regular and consistent training and testing to maintain a vigilance and awareness of the importance of data security.
  • Outside validation of our procedures drives the highest level of integrity. One example is eHealth’s voluntarily submission to a Service Organization Control No. 2 (SOC 2) Type ll examination to ensure that our security standards remain first-in-class among healthcare organizations.
  • Be proactive vs. By taking a proactive, rather than reactive, approach to data security and integrity, we can remain ahead of cyber criminals and mitigate the threat they pose to patient data.

Everyone at eHealth Technologies plays a role in ensuring patient information is protected, not just during Patient Safety Week, but every day of the year. By safely and securely collecting and distributing their records to their healthcare providers, we aim to alleviate these privacy-related concerns and free patients up to focus on their health.
