Last week we announced some exciting company news – the appointment of our new CEO, Dan Torrens.
Torrens brings 25 years of leadership experience to the position, most recently as the chief operating officer for ConnectiveRx in Pittsburgh, where he led both the Operations and Technology teams to simplify the prescription process for specialty medication to ensure that patients receive the therapies they need as quickly as possible. Torrens previously served as chief operating officer of CMMI Institute, a spin off of Carnegie Mellon University’s Software Engineering Institute, where he partnered with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and Medical Device Innovation Consortium to help elevate the entire medical device industry with a focus on improving device quality to save lives. While at the CMMI Institute, he also partnered with the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) to improve data management of patient data demographic information to ensure the right patient receives the right treatment.
At eHealth Technologies, Torrens will apply his years of leadership experience to enhancing the company’s existing technology-enabled solutions and building new digital solutions.
We caught up with Dan to learn more about his vision and his plans for leading the company.
Q: Why are you so passionate about improving the patient experience?
Dan: We have all been there, either directly or in support of a family member who needed urgent health care but was unable to receive the care that they needed in a timely manner. There have been tremendous advancements in life-saving medicines, devices, and procedures over the past decade, but little innovation in administration, leading to frustration and difficulties accessing much-needed therapies. We are supporting patients that may only have months or even weeks to live without the right treatment and still they may have to wait weeks to be seen. We need to do a better job as an industry to get people the help that they need as quickly as possible.
Q: What is your vision for furthering eHealth Technologies’ position as a leader in digital services that expedites care?
Dan: eHealth Technologies has developed a digital, patient-centered solution that accelerates time to treatment. The company will continue to focus on improving the patient experience and look for additional innovative ways to advance the delivery of life-altering care.
Q: What are your goals?
Dan: eHealth Technologies has positively impacted the lives of millions of patients who needed lifesaving care. In 2022 we will focus on helping hundreds of thousands of additional patients to get the care that they need as quickly as possible and look for other ways to improve their overall health care experience. We plan to work with our customers and other industry leaders to evolve patient access so that all patients can receive the care that they need without delay.
Q: What else do you want people to know about your plans for this role?
Dan: I want you to know that the eHealth Technologies team is committed to improving the patient experience and advancing the delivery of life-altering care. The team is made up of very smart and compassionate individuals who are dedicated to the mission and will lead the evolution of patient access through innovative patient-centric solutions.
